The San Marino Community Church Nursery School was established in 1953. We are a state-licensed, non-profit school that has been nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children since 1993. SMCCNS is open to any child, regardless of race, religion, or national ancestry. The school provides a program that offers young children many opportunities for social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

Our philosophy is based on what is developmentally appropriate for each individual child. We aim to help each and every student reach their potential in all areas of growth. Children between the ages of two and a half to five learn through active play: exploring their environment and interacting with others.

What Makes Us Different

Our teachers set us apart from the pack. Our teachers are drawn to the approach we use at SMCCNS because they see themselves as researchers—continuing to ask questions, reexamining their teaching practice, and inventing new ways to extend the children’s investigations. At the same time, they enter in the child’s play to become co-collaborators in children’s discoveries and creations, sharing their joy and wonder. Because all teachers work in groups of two or three, they are able to listen intently and be present in the moment with the children.

Our Accreditation with NAEYC

Our school is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. To obtain this distinction, the Nursery School has voluntarily undergone a comprehensive process of internal self-study, has invited external professionals review to verify compliance with the Academy’s criteria, and has been found to be in substantial compliance with the criteria. For generations, we have sought to provide our community with the highest level of education for our youngest disciples. Our commitment to the accreditation process demonstrates our commitment to continuous quality improvement. Fewer than 10% of all early child learning centers earn this distinction nationwide. We are proud of this achievement, and know that each and every one of our students benefits from this commitment.
