September 2014

Letter From the Director

Dear Families,

We at San Marino Community Church Nursery School are excited to welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year!  I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing summer, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the slower pace and longer days.  We are preparing for a terrific year and are eager to serve our community and create many blessed memories together.  We look forward to getting to know you and your children and provide them with a positive learning experience.  The entire staff of SMCCNS sincerely cares about each child.   We are dedicated to providing a safe and loving atmosphere where love and acceptance are demonstrated by our words and actions.

We encourage and invite parental involvement in all activities at Nursery School, and we welcome you to join us and share your gifts and interests.  Your encouragement and participation with your children will greatly enhance their preschool experience.

In June, we were sad to bid farewell to one of our long time friends and teachers, Mrs. Polly Randall.  She was a blessing and gift to our community, and we will miss her terribly.  Her departure left a hole in our hearts and in our staff, and I was lucky to announce that we have hired two of our stellar Assistant Teachers, Mrs. Chang and Mrs. Eaton to team-teach in Room 3.  Their energy and enthusiasm are contagious, and I look forward to witnessing all of the learning and growing that will take place in their classroom.

Hiring these two superstars as lead teachers left us with two openings in our Assistant’s rotations.  Again, God was listening and looking out for us, and we are so happy to welcome back Mrs. Madrigal-Moulton who has been with our school for many years as a substitute, assistant, and floater.  She is returning from her maternity leave to join us two days a week, while her oldest daughter, Martha, joins Mrs. Perth’s class.  Welcome back, Mrs. Madrigal-Moulton!

Our search for another Assistant was complete when we hired Miss Dawn (Dawn Cansler).  Dawn has 17 years of experience in Early Childhood Education.  During the past 10 years she has worked as a Lead Teacher and piloted two programs, a Pre-K program and an Inclusion Classroom.  She believes that the most important aspect of teaching young children is to be a lifelong learner and to encompass a joyful and nurturing spirit.  Dawn earned an Associates of Arts degree in Social and Behavioral Science from Citrus College in June of 2009 and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Azusa Pacific University in May 2012.  She is currently seeking to enroll in a Graduate Program and continue her education.  She is married to her high school sweetheart David, and will celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary this November.  They have three beautiful children Joshua, Sarah, and Matthew.  She enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and spending time at the beach.  We are so grateful to have Dawn bring us her many years of experience, her joyful heart, and calming spirit to our community.  Please join me in welcoming Dawn.

The first days and weeks of nursery school can be exciting, and may leave some children (and parents) with a heavy heart or apprehension.  We understand that this is a normal part of your parenting journey and your child’s educational path.  Know that we as a school community are here to help in any way that we can.  Remember that any feelings of unease that you may be experiencing can sometimes be picked up by the children, so we encourage you to smile and know that you are giving your children the gift of self-reliance and independence.  As teachers and staff, know that we have all been in your shoes.

Many Blessings to all-

Jane Walker
