Letter from the Director

Greetings nursery school families! A warm welcome to you all.  I hope that the school  year is off to a great start for you and your family! We have had a wonderful first few weeks of school and it seems as though everyone has made a smooth transition. Thank you to all of the parents for your dedication, patience and trust in the teachers and the process.

The beginning of the school year often finds many of us dropping off one child, picking up another and heading to soccer practice, sandwich one hand and homework in another! Please be reminded that while all of the extra curricular activities are fun and exciting, sometimes it can be a bit much on us all, especially our youngest students (and parents!). Children, no matter what age, all need down time. They need opportunities to be creative and find ways to self entertain, almost a lost art in this crazy day in age. With camps, writing class, ballet and karate, it is often difficult to find time to eat dinner together. I encourage you all to find a day to do nothing.  Pick one day out of the week where you all join together to eat dinner, yes at the table, and enjoy one another’s company. Recall those lost lazy days of summer and enjoy a little family time together, and dare to be creative with your children. Check out SMCCNS on Facebook- we often post fun activities that you can do together on our page.

Please feel free to see me anytime to chat, visit or just to say hello!!

Letter from the Board President

Dear SMCC Nursery School Families,

I could not be more thrilled and I hope you agree, that this school year is off to a fantastic start!  Thank you to all the families who attended our Pizza and Drumming with Rythum Child Welcome on Thursday, September 10th.  We had such an amazing turn out and got a break from the heat with the AC runningfull blast inside Fellowship Hall. We have such an enthusiastic and engaged group of families this year! I hope your whole family felt welcomed.

Thank you, also, to all who attended our Annual Fall Coffee on September 22nd.  We heard from Jane Walker, a few staff members at San Marino Community Church and the Nursery School Board of Directors.  Thank you for letting me share with you and be your trusted MC for this informative event.  Know that you belong and that you matter at SMCCNS.  Kim Prater M.A. finished the morning off and reminded us to be mindful of every moment and to not let this special season of life pass us by.  There are more ways than one to eat a sour patch kid!  When we slow down and are willing to take every aspect of an experience in, our perception changes.

We have such an incredible opportunity this year to transform the landscape of our Nursery School Courtyard with our “Learning Garden”.  I have such a spirit of expectation and I hope you feel the same.  I can’t wait to look back, years from now, and see the learning garden being enjoyed by children for years to come.

Lastly, I encourage you all to attend your respective Class Coffees.  It is the best way to get to know your child’s teacher and to get acquainted with the other class parents.  We all know there are so few opportunities to socialize with parents and teachers without children present, you do not want to miss it!  Thank you to everyone involved in making each class coffee special and welcoming for all of our families.  What an honor it is for me to serve you this school year.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

Joy Flores, President, 2015-2016

Halloween Costumes

Halloween is a special time of year, and dressing in costume is an eagerly anticipated activity for many children. However, we ask that on Halloween, you dress your child in their regular clothing for school that day.  While some costumes are fun for your child, they may be scary for others.  We will celebrate with Halloween cookies and special napkins.  Thank you.
