October 2011

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!  We are all so happy that you are here at San Marino Community Church Nursery School. Our school year is already off to a fun start!  A couple of weeks ago we had our first ever Watermelon Social. This was a fun opportunity for our families to get together before the school year kicked into high gear. Everyone had such a great time that Mrs. Swanson had to ring the bell to let everyone know it was time to go home!

Next, we had our Fall Coffee hosted by Hospitality Chairs Jennifer Dannenhauer and Mary Buckley. They did a wonderful job! The food was delicious and the beautiful centerpieces can continue to be enjoyed in our Children’s Garden. I hope everyone who was able to attend, met the other parents in their child’s class, and signed up for all of the fun opportunities.

I hope everyone enjoys the upcoming class coffees hosted by moms in the classroom. This is a great opportunity to have more time with your child’s teacher and hear her plan for the upcoming school year.  You will also get a chance to get better acquainted with the other moms and maybe plan a playdate or two! The room mothers will also let you know what fun activities they will be planning for the school year.

Later this fall is our annual Book Fair, which is being held November 29th and 30th. Cynthia Chylinski and Shiraz Fagan are organizing a great book fair with San Marino Book and Toy Store. There will be a wonderful selection of books and gifts just in time for the holidays. A percentage of all sales will be donated to our Nursery School. Please be sure to stop in!

If you have any questions please feel free to note the names of the Board members in the school directory.  We would be happy to talk to you and answer any questions about the school year.

I hope that everyone’s school year is off to a great start, and that you and your child have a very special year filled with lots of great memories!

All the best,

Ginger Bercaw, School Board President, 2011-2012

Welcome to a fine beginning of nursery school. We are all so pleased with the fresh paint inside and out. We will notice the new roof and gutters when it rains this winter. We feel very supported by the church renovation committee who made sure the work was done before school started this fall.

We welcome Mrs. Victoria Eaton as our new assistant teacher. Mrs. Eaton was a parent here with her sons, Andrew and Eliot. We invited her to become a substitute teacher when her sons began elementary school. She holds a Master of Education Degree from Lesley College, Cambridge, MA, and taught preschool and third grade in Concord, MA. She and her husband, Mark, spent the 2010-2011 school year in Oxford, England, where he taught at Oxford University. Mrs. Eaton is a valued addition to our dedicated staff. She is currently assisting in Mrs. Brown’s class where Wednesdays are “Yoga Days.”

We are happy to announce that Mrs. Madrigal-Moulton gave birth to a baby girl in August. Her name is Martha Angeles Moulton and she has already been here for a visit with her very proud mom and dad.

The class coffees are beginning the first week of October. Your teachers and I so look forward to seeing parents in a more casual setting and talking about our goals, our policies and hearing more about your children from you. This is such a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted, ask questions and get to know us better as well. See you there!

Nancy Swanson

A big round of applause for Mrs. Fitzhugh’s MWF pumpkin patch window! Thank you to room parents, Mariver Copeland and Gisela Galan, for a fantastic October window. This year is off to a great start!

We live in a wonderful age of instant communication and various ways to stay in touch with friends and family both near and far. However, our children should always feel safe at school. We ask that you refrain from posting any pictures or videos on social media sites that include children (not your own) in the photo or video.  This is for the safety and privacy of all families at the nursery school.

We celebrate our school spirit on the last Thursday and Friday of the month. Encourage your child to wear their SMCC t-shirt, sweatshirt, or baseball cap that day.

If you have already ordered your items, they will be delivered during the month of October. Any questions, please contact Judy Rivera.

Halloween is a delightful holiday for many children.  Dressing in costume is a favorite past time of many 3-4 year olds. However, we ask that on Halloween, you keep your child in their regular clothing for school that day. While some costumes are fun for your child, they may be scary for others.  We will celebrate with Halloween cookies and special napkins.  Thank you for understanding!
