Letter From our Director
“Where has October gone?” I am glad that I am not the only person wondering about this, as I have heard many parents ask one another this very question. It seems as though October just disappeared, and Halloween appeared out of nowhere!
As we enter November, we are gearing up for our Nursery School Tour season to officially kick off. We will begin with our Open House on Election Day, November 8th at 10:00 am. I thank all of you parents who pass along the information about our little school to your friends. Since we do not advertise much, we really do depend on our parents to let their friends know what a fine school we have here. I always smile when a new family tells me that someone here has recommended us highly.
Thank you also for your generous donations to our Pumpkin Patch! The children had a great time! There was much scooping, painting, floating and sitting upon pumpkins, and many smiles and much laughter could be seen and heard. Thank you to our Publicity Chairperson, Mikah O’Mara who ensured the attendance of photographers from both the Outlook and Tribune who captured the event so wonderfully in each publication.
In November, we look forward to meeting with parents from each family during our November Observations. It is a great time for you to come see your child in action, and take a few moments to meet with the teacher to discuss progress, successes and fun stories about your child. If you must miss your scheduled appointment, please email your teacher and me directly so that we may reschedule your appointment.
I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful autumn, and is looking forward to the coming holidays. We gently remind you of our “low keyed” holiday/birthday policies here at Nursery School. For Thanksgiving, we will enjoy Cookie Days with cookies and Thanksgiving themed napkins. You may sign up for this tradition with your class’s Room Parent. We also remind everyone that we handle birthdays in the same, low-keyed manner. Please no invitations or goody bags at school. If there is a holiday or other celebration that the class would like to observe together, it is recommended that the parents organize a class play date. This would be an appropriate time and place for these items to be handed out.
On October 17, the teachers and I attended a wonderful conference where we heard from the wonderful Dr. Michael Thompson. He has written several books and documentaries on teaching and raising boys. His message is actually appropriate for all parents and teachers and we all have returned to school with new information, ideas and enthusiasm. We are considering hosting a Parent Education evening that will include a screening of one of his documentaries and the handouts that he provided. If you think you would be interested in attending this event, please see Jane Walker in the office. We thank you all for the support that you provide, which makes these professional development opportunities possible.
Pizza Day Reminder
November Pizza Day is coming up! SMCCNS will have Pizza Day on Tuesday, November 1st, and Friday, November 4th. Please contact Lisa Nguyen at email@example.com if you have any questions.
Admissions Open House
Hi all. I wanted to inform everyone in our community that we are having an admissions open house on November 8th at 10am for perspective students. Please spread the word to any families that are interested in our school. Also, we would love for current parents to volunteer, whether it be baking goods, bringing fruit or greeting perspective parents. If you are interested please contact Jane or Nicole @ firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you in advance for your help.
Thank you to all that have already signed up to bring snacks for our kids! An invitation was sent through Signup Genius last month. But if for some reason, you did not receive an invitation, please let me or Jane Walker know so I can resend an Invite to you. Be reminded that for each child that you have at SMCC, sign up for 2 days of snack for the whole school. Your child will love delivering snacks to all the classrooms on their special day! To reinforce good nutrition habits, bring wholesome snacks for the children. On your day, please include a fruit, a protein, a carbohydrate, and a beverage according to the nutrition guidelines. Thank you for participating in SMCC Nursery School’s nutrition program!
Class Coffees – Thank you!
Thank you to all of the hosts that generously opened up their homes for the class coffees last month

Tuesdays with Two’s
Come enjoy time with your toddler, enjoy time with others and get parenting tips all in one place!
Learn with other parents who have similar interests about separation, nutrition, developmental phases, and temperaments while connecting and developing relationships with one another. Children play in a nurturing preschool environment with art, sensory play and opportunity to play along with others. SMCCNS teacher, Victoria Eaton, has taught at the nursery school for four years, has her masters in Education, is raising two boys and loves to integrate yoga with her students.
Class takes place on Tuesdays from 9:30 – 11:30 for toddler’s ages 18 months to 2.5 years. To register, contact Jane Walker.
Teacher Christmas Gift Policy
Per new school policy, please do not collect money for a group gift for your teachers. Home made gifts and cards are encouraged. If you still feel inclined to get gifts, teachers will be putting together a wish list for items in their classrooms. Please pick from that list, or make a donation to the annual fund in their name. If you have any questions, please contact your room moms.
Annual Fund Update
Looking for a great opportunity to say thanks to your teacher and support the preschool at the same time? Plus, no shopping involved!
A donation can be made to the Annual Fund in your teacher’s name!*
SMCCNS has designed holiday tribute cards that can be decorated by your child/children to be given to your teacher acknowledging a donation to the Annual Fund has been made in their name.
Keep an eye out for more information! Cards will be available beginning in December.
As a reminder, contributions to the Annual Fund will enable the purchase of lofts for classrooms, fund classroom and campus enrichment with new books, games and developmental activities and provide the much-loved enrichment programs: Pump and Splash, Rhythm Child music appreciation, and the Wildlife Learning Center’s live animal show.
