LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
You all have received the letter from Colleen McGuinness introducing Jane Walker, the new director of San Marino Community Church Nursery School. I am overwhelmed with gratitude to the Search Committee for finding such a fine person to lead our nursery school into the future. Your teachers and I appreciate the diligence, time and effort that went into the search process. We are excited to meet and get to know Jane and I know you parents are excited as well. I personally could not be happier with the selection. Jane and I will be able to work together during the month of June for a smooth transition. Jane’s philosophy of early childhood education and what is best for young children is parallel to the philosophy of the school. I know you will welcome Jane with open arms and an open heart as you have welcomed me over these past years. Bless you all.

Signup sheets for the conferences will be posted at the classrooms on Monday, April 8 – right after Spring Break. The times are for 20 minutes beginning 8:20 and ending 12:20. Early morning conferences may be scheduled by contacting your teacher individually.

PARENT EDUCATION SERIES
Understanding Sensory-Processing as a Foundation for Learning & Being with Dr. Susan Spitizer

Do you know your sensory preferences? Do you know your child’s? Come to this fun, interesting and insightful presentation and increase your awareness of sensory preferences. Gain a better understanding of yourself and your family and how you can best adapt to a variety of environments and situations including work, school and social situations. Also learn practical steps to help your child with key life skills and to prepare him or her for grade school.

Topics will include:
• Fine motor skills such as handwriting, drawing and cutting
• Staying calm
• Following routines
• Transitioning to different activities
• Social Skills

NEW DIRECTOR ANNOUNCEMENT
On behalf of the San Marino Community Church Nursery School Search Committee and the Nursery School Personnel Committee, I am pleased to announce that Jane Walker will serve as the new Director of SMCC Nursery School. Upon accepting the position, Jane Walker noted, “I am grateful for the opportunity to expand my membership at SMCC in this unique role as director, and I look forward to building on the great foundations that have been established over the last decades. It is a blessing to be in a school where everyone is dedicated to enthusiastic and dynamic teaching, while creating and nurturing a lifelong love of knowledge and discovery in children.”
Jane is energetic and passionate about early childhood development. As a parent and teacher, she will connect with parents and work well with our experienced staff. I had the opportunity to get to know Jane through the interview process, and thrilled to have found such a well-qualified and caring leader. She will begin her new role June 1st. Please join me in welcoming Jane Walker as our new Nursery School Director.
I’d like to thank the members of the Search Committee, Alison Moller (Personnel Committee), Hilary Dorsey (Education and Spiritual Development Committee) and Rev. Becca Bateman (Associate Pastor of Children’s Ministries) for their diligent and persistent work during the search process.

FALL 2013 ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT UPDATE
Thank you to everyone who has already turned in their applications for returning students for next Fall at SMCCNS! We are looking forward to another fun year with your kids! Applications are due April 26th for returning students, so if you haven’t already, please send in your applications.

One note on next year’s enrollment – the board has voted for, and approved a motion to convert one of our 4 year old, M-W-F classes and one of our 3 year old, T-Th class, into a young 4 year old, 5 day class. This class would be repeatable, meaning that the kids could either go on to Kindergarten, OR do the pre-K class at SMCCNS the following year. The September 1 cut off will remain for all 5-day classes. If you have any questions feel free to ask Nancy Swanson, President Colleen McGuinness, or Admissions Chair Allison McCroskey.

PICNIC DAY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Picnic Day – Parents, Mark your calendars for the last Picnic Day sign-ups of the year! Picnic Day sign-ups this month fall on April 18 (Thursday Picnic Day only) and April 19 at 9:00 am. We will have sign-ups for both May and June Picnic Days at this time so you won’t want to miss it. Be sure to bring your checkbooks to school.
